HHN 35 Pre-Elopement Photoshoot at Universal Orlando (Yes, the Clown Was Real)

Couple kissing beside a clown scare actor holding balloons at Halloween Horror Nights 35, Universal Orlando

Okay, so you might have seen these photos already. They kind of took on a life of their own. If that's how you found me: hi! Welcome! Grab a candy apple, pull up a chair, and stay awhile.

Here's the deal. This couple wanted photos together at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando before they made it official. One week later, they said "I do" at 'Til Death Chapel. So technically, this is the spooky little prequel to their love story. Every good horror franchise needs an origin story, right?

From Stay & Scream to opening night chaos

We kicked things off during Stay & Scream, when the sun is still out, the streets are already dressed up for HHN 35, and everyone is buzzing about the night ahead. Then we rolled straight into the opening of Halloween Horror Nights as the fog started creeping in and the scare actors came out to play.

Our very official, very scientific hit list:

  • The giant HHN 35 sign (obviously)

  • The "Welcome to HHN 35" marquee

  • Mel's Drive-In glowing pink and teal at golden hour

  • The Kitty Kat Club

  • The Midway of the Bizarre (yes, the one with all the heads)

  • So. Much. Fog. Rolling in at exactly the right moments, like the universe was art directing

About that clown

He wandered over, stood right next to them with his balloons, and did not blink while they kissed like nobody was watching. I did not plan that. I could not have planned that. That is just HHN being HHN, and it is now one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. Ever.

“I did not plan that. I could not have planned that.”
— Aida, on the clown

Why this shoot just works

A white mini dress with a lace hem. A veil. Vans. A bowling shirt. Two people laughing their way through a horror event one week before their wedding. No stiff poses, no forced smiles, just pure beautifully chaotic energy. My absolute favorite kind.
